Description: White, chewable, tablet.
Presentation: 30, €5.08.
Indications: Prevention and treatment of vitamin D and calcium deficiency in elderly. As an adjunct to osteoporosis treatment.
Pharmacology: Vitamin D increases the intestinal absorption of calcium. Administration of calcium and vitamin D3 counteracts the increase of parathyroid hormone which is caused by calcium deficiency and which causes increased bone resorption.
Dosage: Adult: One tablet once daily. Elderly: As per adults. Children: Not recommended.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients. Hypersensitivity to soya or peanut. Hypercalcaemia/hypercalciuria, severe renal impairment, nephrolithiasis, hypervitaminosis D. Pregnancy.
Special precautions: Caution: Renal impairment (monitor calcium and phosphate levels), sarcoidosis (monitor calcium in serum and urine), immobilised patients with osteoporosis. Long term treatment, monitor calcium and renal function (especially elderly and patients with high calculus formation tendency). Hypercalcaemia or signs of impaired renal function (reduce or discontinue). Consider risk of soft tissue calcification. Contains isomalt, sucrose.
Drug interactions: Not recommended: Tetracyclines (≥2 hours before or 4-6 hours after), quinolones (2 hours before or 6 hours after). Levothyroxine (≥4 hours apart). Iron, zinc or strontium ranelate (2 hours apart). Bisphosphonate (≥1 hour before). Other agents containing vitamin D, absorbable alkali, thiazide diuretics, cardiac glycosides.
Adverse drug reactions: None common.
