Company: Novartis Consumer Health.

Active ingredient: Xylometazoline hydrochloride 0.1% w/v.
Description: Nasal spray, containing menthol and eucalyptol vapours.
Presentation: 10ml, €2.98.
Indications: Symptomatic relief of nasal congestion, perennial and allergic rhinitis (including hay fever), sinusitis.
Pharmacology: Xylometazoline is a sympathomimetic agent with marked alpha-adrenergic activity. It constricts the nasal blood vessels, thereby decongesting the mucosa of the nose and neighbouring regions of the pharynx. This enables patients suffering from colds to breathe more easily.
Dosage: Adult: One spray in each nostril 2 to 3 times daily. Elderly: As per adults. Children: Under 12 years, unsuitable
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to xylometazoline or to any of the excipients. Transsphenoidal hypophysectomy or surgery exposing the dura mater.
Special precautions: Do not take for more than 7 consecutive days. Caution: Cardiovascular disease. Recent neurosurgery (do not use). Pregnancy (do not use). Contains benzalkonium chloride.
Drug interactions: None.
Adverse drug reactions: Burning sensation in nose and throat. Local irritation, nausea, headache, dry nose. Systemic cardiovascular effects have occurred.
